Add a Battery to Your Existing Solar System

RSEG installs battery storage for suitable homes with existing solar systems across the Perth metropolitan area. Our team can assess your current panels, inverter, switchboard and electricity usage before recommending a battery solution that works with the existing installation.

Adding a battery allows surplus solar electricity generated during the day to be stored for use later, commonly during the evening or overnight. Depending on your consumption and electricity tariff, this may reduce the amount of power purchased from the grid and increase the amount of solar energy used within your home.

Not every existing solar system is immediately ready for battery storage. Compatibility depends on the inverter, panel configuration, age and condition of the equipment, available switchboard capacity and the requirements of the proposed battery. An assessment is therefore required before confirming whether the existing equipment can be retained.

RSEG does not install AC coupled battery retrofits. Where the existing inverter cannot support a compatible battery, the installation may require replacing it with a suitable hybrid inverter and reconfiguring the solar system. This creates an integrated arrangement in which the hybrid inverter manages both the solar panels and battery storage.

Battery capacity should be selected according to the amount of excess solar available, evening electricity use, required power output and any expectations around blackout backup. A larger battery is not automatically the best option if the solar system cannot charge it regularly or the household does not use enough stored energy.

Backup power must also be specifically designed into the installation. A battery does not automatically operate during an outage or supply every circuit in the home. RSEG can discuss compatible backup arrangements, nominated essential circuits, monitoring, switchboard requirements and potential future loads such as EV charging.

All work is completed by appropriately licensed and accredited personnel, with the required electrical safety documentation provided for qualifying installation work.
