Testing and Tagging
Perth

RSEG provides electrical testing and tagging for businesses, workplaces, property managers and suitable industrial sites across the Perth metropolitan area and wider Western Australia. Based in Southern River, our team can inspect and test portable electrical equipment to help identify damage, deterioration and electrical faults before the equipment is returned to service.

Testing and tagging commonly applies to plug in equipment such as power tools, office appliances, kitchen equipment, extension leads, power boards and portable RCDs. The process generally includes a visual inspection, appropriate electrical tests and a durable tag recording the test result and relevant dates. Testing may assess protective earthing, insulation and other safety characteristics depending on the equipment.

RSEG conducts testing with reference to AS/NZS 3760:2022, the current Australian and New Zealand standard for in service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and RCDs.

Not every appliance in every workplace requires testing at the same interval. Western Australian requirements are risk based. Equipment used in higher risk environments such as workshops, commercial kitchens, outdoor areas or dusty, wet and mechanically demanding workplaces, requires closer attention because its normal use may expose it to damage. Lower risk environments such as clean, organised offices may require less frequent testing.

Construction and demolition sites have additional requirements for portable electrical equipment and portable RCDs, with testing required to be completed by a competent person or licensed electrician.

Equipment that fails inspection or testing should be clearly identified and removed from service until it has been repaired and successfully retested or disposed of. Testing and tagging does not itself repair faulty equipment or replace an inspection of the building’s fixed wiring.

RSEG can assist with one off testing, scheduled workplace programs and equipment registers for suitable commercial and industrial clients.
