RCD Safety Switch Installation & Testing Perth

An RCD, or residual current device, is designed to disconnect electricity rapidly when it detects current leaking through an unintended path. This can reduce the risk of serious electric shock, electrocution and some electrical fires. An RCD performs a different function from a circuit breaker: circuit breakers primarily protect wiring against overloads and short circuits, while an RCD detects harmful current leakage. An RCBO combines both forms of protection in one device.
RSEG can install new RCDs or RCBOs, replace devices that fail testing, investigate repeated tripping and assess whether circuits are divided appropriately across the switchboard. We can also review RCD protection during switchboard upgrades, renovations, rewiring, solar and battery installations, EV charger projects and other electrical work.
Western Australian rental homes must have at least two RCDs installed at the switchboard before they can be leased. Residential properties being sold, rented or hired must have the applicable socket outlet and lighting circuits protected. New residential installations constructed after 1 January 2019 require RCD protection on all final subcircuits, including circuits supplying hardwired appliances.
RCDs should be tested using their test button approximately every three months, or more frequently where required by the manufacturer. Contact an electrician if an RCD does not trip, cannot be reset or repeatedly operates during ordinary use.
All fixed electrical work is completed by appropriately licensed electricians. RSEG provides the required electrical safety documentation for qualifying installation work.
