Electrical Fault Finding
Perth

RSEG provides electrical fault finding for homes, businesses and suitable industrial properties across the Perth metropolitan area. Based in Southern River, our licensed electricians can investigate repeated tripping, partial power loss, flickering lights, faulty circuits, damaged equipment and other unexplained electrical problems.

Electrical faults can have many causes, including loose connections, deteriorated wiring, moisture, overloaded circuits, faulty appliances, damaged fittings or defective protective devices. The visible symptom does not always identify the underlying problem, so proper testing is often required before a safe repair can be recommended.

RSEG can investigate circuit breakers or RCD safety switches that repeatedly trip, rooms or outlets without power, lights that flicker or dim, buzzing fittings, hot switches, burning smells and intermittent electrical equipment. We can also assess faults affecting lighting, power points, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, smoke alarms, switchboards and dedicated appliance circuits.

A short circuit, overload and earth leakage fault are different electrical problems. An overload occurs when a circuit carries more current than it is designed to handle. A short circuit creates an unintended low resistance path that can produce a high fault current. Earth leakage occurs when current flows away from its intended path, potentially causing an RCD to operate. Accurate testing helps determine which type of fault is present.

Do not repeatedly reset a circuit breaker or RCD that continues to trip. Repeated operation may indicate a faulty appliance, damaged wiring, moisture or another issue requiring professional investigation. Burning smells, smoke, sparks, electric shocks, crackling noises or visibly damaged wiring should be treated urgently.

Fault finding may involve inspection, electrical testing and isolating circuits or appliances one at a time. Some intermittent or concealed faults can take longer to locate, particularly where wiring is inaccessible or the problem only occurs under particular conditions.

Once the cause is identified, RSEG can explain the findings and recommend an appropriate repair, replacement or further investigation. For qualifying electrical installation work, the required electrical safety documentation is provided in accordance with Western Australian requirements.
